We're sure that you all have seen Rogue One, or are at least planning on watching it. We can't blame you, it's soaring high in the box office and everyone is talking about it. An aspect that people are talking about the most is how they brought back Moff Tarkin.
Grand Moff Tarkin is a character from the Original Star Wars who was in charge of the Death Star and used it to destroy the planet Alderaan. He died during the destruction of the moon shaped weapon and hasn't returned to the big screen before Rogue One. Moff Tarkin was portrayed on screen by Peter Cushing, who has been dead since 1994.
Rogue One is a prequel film that takes place before the events of the Original Star Wars. Through the use of 3D scanning, they were able to recreate Moff Tarkin in Peter Cushing's likeness and bring the character back to the big screen. Industrial Light and Magic used Next Engine's 3D scanner to scan models of Peter Cushing's face.
