A team of researchers have made parts of Lucy's fossil available for people to 3D print and study. Digital versions of her fossil were released alongside a Nature paper that argues that Lucy died after falling off a tree. After examining Lucy's bones the researchers discovered unusual bone fractures that pointed towards falling as the cause of death.

The team made the bones available to download because they want other researchers to print and test the hypothesis of their paper.

*3D Printers have many applications that range from prototyping to scientific research. It is also technology that is being adopted and used in many different fields of study and research.
