New Balance has been working on 3D printed shoes for the past few years and debuted one of their creations on Monday night when Cleveland Indians’ Corey Kluber wore a 3D-printed plate in each of his spikes. This marked the first time a baseball player wore such a piece of footwear during a MLB game.
Bryan Gothie at New Balance explained that the company has been working on a 3D plate that would be unique to the mechanics of pitching. When Gothie's team met and talked with Kluber about the idea, he was receptive to the idea and decided to participate in the innovative project.
