Augmented reality and virtual reality is becoming more accessible than ever, and the applications are far reaching. Debuted at the Google I/O developer conference in Sacramento, The Constructor Developer Tool is a three-dimensional rendering of a room or object using a Project Tango-enabled smartphone ( Project Tango is the name of Google’s augmented reality computing platform). Available in the Google Play store, Constructor uses the rear-mounted depth, motion and IR cameras on Tango-enabled phones to scan and render a precise 3D mesh of a room. You can scan your own renderings of a space by moving your phone throughout the room, and creating a precise 3D mesh of the room.

Constructor also has a virtual reality component in development, which will allow you to interact with your 3D rendered spaces in an immersive way. Immersive 3D spaces will provide convenience and exploration that can potentially streamline many different industries. Implementation of this technology can be revolutionary for interior designers, construction, real estate and retail spaces alike. Imagine trying out different furniture or planning the layout of your home, all from the comfort of your smartphone. Homebuyers will have the ability to explore the interior of their future home without ever physically stepping foot inside. Students from will be able to virtually ‘tour’ college campuses, dorm rooms and facilities without ever leaving home. The applications are endless.
